November 3, 2021
The Las Vegas Raiders announced they released wide receiver Henry Ruggs III, who is facing a charge of driving under the influence resulting in death.
Earlier Tuesday, Las Vegas police announced that they planned to charge the wide receiver after responding to a traffic collision that morning. Ruggs was identified as the driver of a Chevrolet that collided with a Toyota on Tuesday morning, causing the Toyota to set on fire while a 23-year-old woman was trapped inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Ruggs showed visible signs of impairment:

The AFC West team previously released a statement that said, "The Raiders are aware of an accident involving Henry Ruggs III that occurred this morning in Las Vegas. We are devastated by the loss of life and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim's family. We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time."
An NFL spokesperson also released a statement that echoed that sentiment and said, "Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim of this horrific tragedy. We will continue to gather facts and monitor the matter under our policies, but our thoughts at this time are with those impacted by this devastating incident."
TMZ Sports reported Ruggs could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted on the felony DUI charge and between one and six years on a reckless driving charge.
Police said Ruggs and his girlfriend, Kiara Kligo-Washington, were also said to have suffered "serious" injuries in the crash.
ESPN noted Ruggs was released from the hospital and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday. The report also noted police said Kligo-Washington's injuries were not life-threatening even though she too was hospitalized.
Ruggs' attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, said they "ask everyone to reserve judgment until all the facts are gathered."
The Raiders selected Ruggs out of Alabama with a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, and he appeared in 20 games for the team over the past two seasons.
