X Games Aspen 2023 is in the books after three action-packed days. The competition, which exists outside the FIS World Cup competitive ski and snowboard season, has always served as a breeding ground for progression in freestyle skiing and snowboarding, and that was never more true than this year.

Heading into the start of competition Friday, a woman had never landed a triple cork (three-and-a-half off-axis flips) in ski or snowboard competition. By the time the sun rose Sunday, three had: one skier and two snowboarders.

The ladies made more history Saturday in the women's snowboard halfpipe competition. Gaon Choi, at 14 years and two months old, broke Chloe Kim's record as the youngest X Games snowboard halfpipe gold medalist.

On the men's side, Canada's Mark McMorris made history as well with his win in men's snowboard slopestyle for his 22nd X Games medal. That broke a tie with female snowboarder Jamie Anderson for the most total Winter X Games medals.

Other highlights of this weekend's event included New Zealander and Olympic gold medalist Zoi Sadowski-Synnott becoming the first athlete to win back-to-back X Games gold since Silje Norendal (2014-15).

Let's take a look at the full results from every event at X Games Aspen 2023, as well as the biggest tricks and top highlights from another year of exhilarating action.

X Games Aspen 2023 started off with a bang Friday, as Sadowski-Synnott successfully earned her second consecutive X Games slopestyle medal.

Right now, there's no female snowboarder better on the slopestyle course, if not all-around in competition, than Sadowski-Synnott. "Coming from Down Under, you feel like a bit of an underdog," the New Zealander said Friday. But right now, Sadowski-Synnott is the rider to beat.

In women's skiing, Canada's Megan Oldham wrote her name in the record books Friday when she became the first woman to land a triple cork in ski or snowboard competition.

On Friday night, Australian snowboarder Scotty James proved he's the new king of halfpipe with his gold medal, his fifth X Games gold. But the young guns in men's halfpipe snowboarding are nipping at his heels.

Speaking of young guns in snowboard halfpipe, 14-year-old Gaon Choi of South Korea exploded onto the scene as an X Games rookie Saturday by breaking Chloe Kim's record as the youngest ever X Games snowboard halfpipe winner.

Not only was this Choi's first X Games, but it was her first pro competition.

To make the story even more amazing, Kim is Choi's mentor, and she and her family helped Choi move to the U.S. from Seoul to train with the Mammoth Mountain development team.

The biggest trick of Choi's gold-worthy halfpipe run was her frontside 1080 (three full rotations) melon.

The history continued Saturday night in the women's snowboard big air competition. After Oldham landed the first triple in competition by a female skier or snowboarder Friday, Japan's Reira Iwabuchi became the first female snowboarder to do it in competition. Her clean triple underflip frontside grab was what helped her secure gold.

Moments later, Canada's Laurie Blouin landed her own triple. Austria's Anna Gasser, the first female snowboarder to land a triple (however not in a competition) is the only other woman who has done it, and she is likely to do it in a competition sometime this season after not being able to put it down successfully at X Games.

"Reira didn't just land the first triple in a women's snowboard contest; she sent the sport's trajectory into warp speed. To land it first-try so perfectly is really the stuff of legends," X Games snowboarding commentator Brandon Graham said.

The men's snowboard big air final picked up right after the women's, and Marcus Kleveland, as always, blew people's minds with his nearly flawless runs (his first earned a 49 out of a possible 50) to defend his gold medal from 2022. The trick that the judges deemed almost perfect was a frontside triple rodeo 1800.

Marcus Kleveland's quest to go 3-of-3 in gold medals at X Games Aspen 2023 was thwarted by Canada's Mark McMorris, who took gold in men's snowboard slopestyle.

With the win, McMorris earned his 22nd total X Games medal, breaking his tie with Jamie Anderson to become the sole winningest Winter X games athlete.
