Seahawks' Bobby Wagner Says He Will '100 Percent' Return for 2024 NFL Season
January 4, 2024
Bobby Wagner's return to the Seattle Seahawks for the 2023 season isn't going to be a farewell lap on his storied career.
The nine-time Pro Bowler told reporters he will "one hundred percent" be playing in 2024.
"There's no might," he said. "I never thought anything else outside of that."
If Wagner is going to keep playing, the obvious question is what team will he be suiting up for.
The Seahawks signed Wagner to a one-year, $5.5 million deal in the offseason after he was released by the Los Angeles Rams. He remains one of the most durable linebackers in the NFL at this point in his career.
A second-round pick by the Seahawks in 2012, Wagner spent the first 10 years of his career with the organization. He was released in March 2022 and signed a five-year deal with the Rams soon after that.
Wagner has appeared in all 16 games so far this season and has played every defensive snap in all but two games. He no longer has the same speed and quickness that made him one of the best inside linebackers in the NFL during his prime, but he's still effective in his role.
Zaire Franklin of the Indianapolis Colts is the only player who has more combined tackles (170) than Wagner's 168 this season. He leads the Seahawks with 11 tackles for loss and is tied for sixth with six tackles for loss.
Wagner was named to the NFC Pro Bowl roster on Wednesday. He's one of 11 linebackers in NFL history with nine Pro Bowl selections.
Before looking ahead to the 2024 season, though, Wagner will attempt to get the Seahawks into the playoffs this season. Their simplest path to the postseason is by defeating the Arizona Cardinals and have the Green Bay Packers lose to the Chicago Bears.
