5-Star CB Devin Sanchez Commits to Ohio State over Alabama, Texas A&M
January 6, 2024
Highly touted cornerback Devin Sanchez committed to play college football at Ohio State during Saturday's All-American Bowl.
According to 247Sports' composite rankings, Sanchez is a 5-star prospect and the No. 6 overall recruit and No. 2 cornerback in the class of 2025.
Sanchez also had scholarship offers from several other high-profile programs, including Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas and USC.
Although he still has another season to play at North Shore High School in Houston before making the move to the college ranks in 2024, Sanchez was so impressed with OSU that he decided to commit early.
According to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, the 6'2", 170-pound defensive back said he committed to Ohio State back on Nov. 2 after taking a visit to the school.
Sanchez noted that he canceled previously planned visits to Alabama and LSU, saying: "I called [cornerbacks] coach [Tim] Walton and [head] coach [Ryan] Day and let them know after the visit it felt like home. I was supposed to visit Bama and LSU after, but didn't go. I figured, why not make the move? They were the only team showing true love."
The talented corner added that while he initially planned to commit during the 2024 season, he chose to commit early thanks to the strong relationship he built with Walton.
Sanchez already possesses ideal size and length to play cornerback against a high level of competition collegiately, plus he is a track star with top-end speed.
Gabe Brooks, who is a national scouting analyst for 247Sports, is already projecting Sanchez to be a first-round pick when he enters the NFL draft several years from now.
That would not be a surprising result since Bradley Roby, Eli Apple, Marshon Lattimore, Gareon Conley, Denzel Ward, Jeff Okudah and Damon Arnette all went in the first round as former OSU cornerbacks over the past decade.
Day is already putting together a strong 2025 recruiting class as well with Sanchez marking his fifth commit thus far, joining 4-star prospects in quarterback Tavien St. Clair and cornerback Blake Woodby, per 247Sports.
