January 6, 2024
Bryce Underwood is taking his talents to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The five-star quarterback and No. 1 overall prospect in the class of 2025 announced his commitment to the LSU Tigers on Saturday, per ESPN's Tom VanHaaren.
Underwood chose LSU over the likes of Colorado, Alabama, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, and Florida State.

"Great coaching staff, amazing coaching staff, amazing atmosphere. The program itself is very historical. A lot of great players went in and out of Louisiana State University," Underwood previously told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports. "The food is amazing. It's a lot of real people out there. A lot of people from Michigan. A lot of things we can relate to."
Underwood, a two-time state champion, plays at Belleville High School in Belleville, Michigan. As a sophomore, he threw for 2,751 yards and 37 touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 642 yards and eight scores.
He followed that up with a brilliant junior season that saw him throw for 3,165 yards and 40 touchdowns against two interceptions, in addition to rushing for seven scores.
Underwood's private quarterback coach Donovan Dooley told Wiltfong:
"He can do anything on a football field, throw a football from any platform, and when things go wrong he can make you right. I love the fact he's a passer. Through his teachings, MIKE definitions, protections and making adjustments during the game is vital, he's developed into a more mature quarterback. When we talk maturity, we talk more about decision making and controlling the tempo and making guys around him better."
"Currently shows no glaring weaknesses, just needs to continue to progress in terms of learning defenses and going through progressions, but shows high-end physical tools as well as intangibles," 247Sports national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu wrote of Underwood.
Now headed to LSU, Underwood will aim to further his skillset in pursuit of a career in the NFL.
The Tigers landing the highly-touted prospect is a major get for the program with Jayden Daniels headed to the NFL. Daniels declared for the draft after throwing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns in 2023, in addition to rushing for more than 1,000 yards.
That said, Underwood won't arrive until 2025, so LSU still needs to sort out who will start next season. Garrett Nussmeier is currently the favorite to take over under center in 2024, and Underwood could certainly challenge him for the job come 2025.
