The NBA is "preparing to move" the 2024 draft to a two-day format, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The league will need approval from the National Basketball Players Association to stage the event on June 26 and June 27.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported in November there was growing momentum behind the idea of making the draft a two-night affair.

Under the current format, the second round isn't a complete afterthought, but there's a clear delineation between it and the first round. Fans and even broadcasters tend to put less focus on each individual selection.

Two-time MVP Nikola Jokić was the 41st overall pick in 2014, and the announcement was famously made during a commercial for Taco Bell.

The Athletic's John Hollinger explained how the thinking went beyond attempting to make a better viewing experience for fans.

"This isn't just a marketing issue; it's also a time issue for the teams involved," he wrote. "During the second round, it can be difficult to complete trades involving picks in the allotted time frame of just two minutes."

Even if the second round is still less heralded by comparison, it will be a worthwhile endeavor if it alleviates some of the stress on NBA front offices during the event.
