Super Bowl 2024: Updated Odds and Predictions for Championship Tilt

Six playoff teams were eliminated over Super Wild Card Weekend, leaving eight alive in the race for Super Bowl LVIII.

It's an intriguing field that features a couple of surprises and a few in-season favorites. No one should be shocked to see the Detroit Lions or Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round, and the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers were both on bye last weekend,

However, few likely expected Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers to become a force this quickly or for Baker Mayfield to take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a round further than Tom Brady did in 2022. Even fewer probably foresaw rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans being here.

The Buffalo Bills were a preseason favorite but had to win their final five games just to guarantee a playoff berth. All of these teams, though, are now two wins away from reaching the big game.

Which teams will make it to the final stage and battle for the Lombardi Trophy on February 11? Let's examine the latest odds and make a few predictions.

AFC Winner Prediction: Baltimore Ravens

2 of 3

The remaining AFC field features four top-tier quarterbacks in Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Stroud—yes, the rookie has done enough to be included. However, Jackson is the presumptive 2023 MVP, and his scrambling ability is nearly impossible to contain.

With an improved passing plan around him—thanks to the arrival of offensive coordinator Todd Monken and receivers Zay Flower and Odell Beckham Jr.—Jackson might be the most unstoppable force in the entire postseason.

With him leading the way, the Ravens ranked fifth in yards per rush, fifth in net yards per pass attempt and fourth in scoring.

The Ravens, though, don't rely solely on Jackson to win. Defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald's unit has become a force in his second season, and the varied coverage looks he presents can confuse the best of signal-callers.

Baltimore finished the regular season ranked first in net yards per pass attempt allowed, sixth in total yards allowed and first in points allowed.

The Ravens are constructed to match up well with the other three teams left in the conference. Baltimore's one weakness is its run defense, none of the remaining AFC teams rank inside the top 10 in rushing yards or yards per carry.

The big question is whether Baltimore will come out of the bye rusty—it also rested starters in Week 18—and make enough mistakes to give Houston a chance. If the Ravens survive the surging Texans, they should be ready for whoever is up next.

NFC Winner Prediction: San Francisco 49ers

3 of 3

Like the Ravens, the 49ers could find their biggest challenge in the divisional round. The Packers are as hot as any team in the playoffs, and they've been playing win-or-go-home football for weeks.

San Francisco's starters have also been resting since Week 17, so the threat of rust is real. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan insists it won't be an issue for quarterback Brock Purdy.

"I don't worry about that affecting Brock at all for Saturday," Shanahan said, per ProFootballTalk's Michael David Smith.

While Purdy isn't as dynamic as Love, he's been played at a high level since taking over the starting job in 2022. Purdy is surrounded by elite playmakers Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle. This gives San Francisco a multi-faceted offense capable of carving up any potential foe.

San Francisco's third-ranked scoring defense can also present problems for potential playoff opponents. The 49ers' one weakness is their inconsistent play against the pass. That could be a serious issue against Love and the Packers.

Should the 49ers survive Green Bay, though, they match up extremely well with the Lions and the Bucs—San Francisco beat Tampa by two scores back in Week 11.

Three of San Francisco's four losses before the meaningless finale came against AFC North opponents. The 49ers won't face an AFC North team again this year, unless they meet the Ravens in the Super Bowl—which is precisely what we expect.
