Andrew Wiggins Trade Rumors: Bucks Considering Warriors Star Amid Mavericks Buzz
February 6, 2024
Ahead of Thursday's NBA trade deadline, Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins is drawing interest from teams looking to improve on the wing.
Per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, Wiggins "remains a player in consideration" by the Milwaukee Bucks as well as the Dallas Mavericks.
Fischer named Wiggins as the Warriors player who has "generated the most significant trade chatter around the league." Despite Milwaukee's interest, Fischer explained that the team would have to give up a beloved member of its core in any potential deal that would land Wiggins.
"Although in order for Milwaukee to reach Wiggins' $24.3 million salary, the Bucks would need to include forward Bobby Portis in any outgoing package, and Milwaukee, sources said, is going to think long and hard before sacrificing Portis in any deal at this deadline," Fischer stated.
However, there would reportedly be mutual interest in a deal that would send Portis to Golden State, as Fischer pointed out that he was one of Warriors head coach Steve Kerr's "favorites" when he coached Team USA this past summer during the FIBA World Cup.
Wiggins is in the midst of a disappointing season, as he has seen his scoring average drop from 17.1 points per game last year to 12.2 ppg this year. Perhaps a change in scenery will produce better results for the 2014 No. 1 pick.
Golden State will be seeking a player in return who can help the team win now, so it remains to be seen if the Warriors will be able to get a deal done for Wiggins by Thursday's deadline.
