New York Knicks All-Star guard Jalen Brunson refused to call out the officials after a controversial foul call cost the Knicks in a 105-103 loss to the Houston Rockets on Monday night.

Brunson scored four straight points to tie the game 103-103 with 8.1 seconds remaining, but with 0.1 second left, Brunson was called for a foul on Rockets guard Aaron Holiday on a three-point attempt:

Holiday made the first two free throws and intentionally missed the third to seal a 105-103 win for Houston.

After the game, crew chief Ed Malloy admitted that the officials erred in making the call, noting that it was incidental contact that did not rise to the level of a foul, per ESPN.com:

"After seeing it during postgame review, the offensive player was able to return to a normal playing position on the floor. The contact which occurred after the release of the ball therefore is incidental and marginal to the shot attempt and should not have been called."

Reporters asked Brunson about the call multiple times after the game, but each time he answered by saying, "Great call. Next question."

Houston led by 14 points at halftime, but New York staged a furious comeback, outscoring the Rockets by 11 points in the third quarter.

Brunson played a significant role in giving the Knicks a chance to win, as he scored a game-high 27 points on 10-of-25 shooting and added seven assists and four rebounds.

The Knicks also got 23 points out of guard Donte DiVincenzo, while Dillon Brooks and Jabari Smith Jr. were the scoring leaders for Houston with 23 and 20 points, respectively.

It wasn't long ago that the Knicks were the hottest team in the NBA, having won nine games in a row, but they are 1-4 since that winning streak ended and have now dropped three in a row.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the Knicks' struggles have coincided with the absence of major trade acquisition OG Anunoby, who last week was ruled out for at least three weeks after undergoing surgery to remove bone fragments from his elbow.

Since Anunoby went on the shelf, the Knicks are just 4-4, and they have dropped to fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 33-21 record.

New York's next chance to get back on track will come Wednesday when it goes on the road to face the 29-24 Orlando Magic.
