After rumors earlier in the day that the Golden State Warriors wanted to gauge LeBron James' interest in playing for them, the 20-time All-Star has been talking with Stephen Curry about teaming up for Team USA.

On Wednesday's episode of First Take (h/t Awful Announcing), ESPN's Brian Windhorst said James and Curry "have actually been thinking about playing together for months" with Steve Kerr as their head coach, "and that is with Team USA this summer at the Paris Olympics."

First, while this isn't quite up to the same level of "why would they do that?" this was an expert-level dramatic reading by Windhorst to get people thinking something could be brewing between James and Curry about playing together in the NBA.

It's not exactly a surprise that James and Curry will likely play for the United States this summer. Both superstars were included in the initial 28-player pool that was announced on Jan. 23.

In September, Shams Charania and Joe Vardon of The Athletic reported James was "ready to commit" to Team USA and he called "multiple stars to essentially recruit them to join him," with Curry being among those on the list.

Kerr took over as head coach for USA Basketball in December 2021 after being an assistant on the 2020 team led by Gregg Popovich.

Team USA will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing fourth-place finish at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

If James does end up playing for the U.S., it will mark his first appearance at the Olympics since 2012. He won three straight Olympic medals in 2004, 2008 and 2012, including back-to-back golds in '08 and '12.

Curry has never played for the United States in the Olympics. He was scheduled to be on the 2016 team, but knee and ankle injuries forced him to withdraw from the team.
