Video: Kevin Durant Praises LeBron James, Reveals What He Can Learn from Lakers Star
February 18, 2024
Before they play alongside one another in Sunday's NBA All-Star Game, Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant gave Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James his flowers.
While speaking on Boardroom, Durant said he has nothing but respect and admiration for how James has been able to sustain his level of dominance in his 20th season in the NBA.
"That longevity has to mean something, that has to be a standard," Durant said. "If you truly want to know what greatness is like, of course, you could accumulate championships in a short amount of time, accolades in a short amount of time and you can have a nice, quick spur-of-the-moment, but like, I truly appreciate somebody who's been in that s--t for a long time."
James, who turned 39 in December, has not lost a step and is averaging 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1.3 steals this season. The Lakers and Suns have met four times already this year, with Los Angeles earning three wins.
Durant went on to explain the biggest lesson he learned from watching James' legendary career.
"His enthusiasm and love for the game of basketball, and it's that simple, there's nothing more than that," he said. "I know LeBron and his brand, there's just so much built on top, but the foundation is that. I think everything he does is the foundation of, 'I just enjoy showing up and I enjoy being who I am in this space every day,' and that's something that I can appreciate and learn from, because it's literally that simple for a lot of people that's been in it for a long time."
