Allen Iverson to Be Honored with Sculpture on 'Legends Walk' at 76ers' Facility
March 1, 2024
The Philadelphia 76ers plan to honor legend Allen Iverson with a sculpture outside of Penn Medicine Philadelphia 76ers Training Complex, the team announced Friday.
The sculpture unveiling will take place Friday, April 12 on the 10th anniversary of Iverson's jersey being retired by Philadelphia.
Iverson's statue will be the 10th to be installed outside of the 76ers' facilities, joining legends Charles Barkley, Wilt Chamberlain, Maurice Cheeks, Billy Cunningham, Julius Erving, Hall Greer, Bobby Jones, Moses Malone and Dolph Schayes.
"Allen Iverson is one of the greatest 76ers to ever live and one of the most iconic players in the history of the NBA, and we're thrilled to honor his accomplishments with a well-deserved sculpture on Legends Walk," team owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer said in a statement. "Paying homage to the legends who paved the way for our franchise is not only the right thing to do; it's an incredible source of inspiration for current and future generations of 76ers players and staff who enter our Training Complex every day, as well as kids in the city of Philadelphia and at large. We look forward to celebrating Allen's legacy on April 12."
Iverson, a 14-year veteran, spent most of his career in Philadelphia. He was drafted by the 76ers in 1996, where he remained until a blockbuster trade sent him to the Denver Nuggets in 2006-07. After a few years away from Philadelphia, Iverson rejoined the team for part of the season in 2009-10 in his last NBA campaign.
During his time in Philadelphia, he led the team to its only Finals appearance this century in 2001 on his way to being named the NBA's MVP. He led the league in scoring four times and was named an All-Star 11 times, winning All-Star Game MVP twice. In 2016, Iverson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
