Rapoport: 'Really Good Chance' Xavier Worthy Is 1st-Rounder After 40-Yard Dash Record
March 3, 2024
After his record-setting 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy is quickly rising up draft boards.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Worthy's performance was so eye-opening that he vastly improved his chances of being a first-round pick.
"Thought there was a pretty decent chance, maybe, that he wouldn't slip into the first round, kind of late in the first round before the run," Rapoport said. "Now, I'd say there's a really good chance he gets in the first round, potentially even the fourth receiver taken."
Worthy clocked an official time of 4.21 seconds, breaking former Washington receiver John Ross' 2017 record of 4.22 seconds.
"I just broke the record. It still doesn't feel real," Worthy said afterward. "Man, just a blessing to be able to do this in front of all these fans, with all these peers I'm with."
In three seasons at Texas, Worthy appeared in 39 games and finished fourth in program history with 2,755 receiving yards. His career punt return average of 14.5 yards is second all-time for the Longhorns. In 2023, he totaled 75 catches, 1,014 receiving yards and five touchdowns and also recorded his first career punt return touchdown.
B/R's NFL Scouting Department ranked Worthy as the No. 8 receiver in the 2024 class in its latest big board, released in early Feb.
