Quandre Diggs isn't exactly feeling great about the safety market after his release from the Seattle Seahawks.

Diggs joked he's planning on moving back to cornerback amid the more than $100 million in safety contracts released by NFL teams in recent days.

Getting down to 190 and moving back to corner the hell with this! πŸ˜‚

Justin Simmons, Jamal Adams, Kevin Byard, Eddie Jackson, Rayshawn Jenkins and Jordan Poyer have been released in recent days, leaving teams with a seemingly never-ending supply of high-profile veteran safeties on the market. The safety and running back positions in particular are overloaded with big names, which will almost certainly lead to a depressed market.

Diggs, who made three straight Pro Bowls from 2020 to 2022 before an inconsistent 2023 season, began his career as a cornerback before transitioning to safety in 2017. He has been a fixture in starting lineups in Detroit and Seattle since, starting all 67 games in his four full seasons with the Seahawks.

It's unlikely Diggs has the top-end speed to transition to cornerback at age 31, but he's correct to be concerned about the market at safety. The churn at the position has been eye-opening in recent days and signals an increased emphasis on younger, controllable players at the position.

It's fair to wonder if safeties and linebackers are becoming the defensive equivalent of running backs as teams focus on edge rushers and cornerbacks.
