Despite his cloudy future with the Los Angeles Rams, star defensive tackle Aaron Donald previously committed to the team beyond his 2023 campaign.

According to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, the Rams "received his commitment" to play through the 2024 season when he signed a massive three-year extension with the team worth $95 million in 2022.

The 32-year-old initially contemplated retirement before signing the contract to stay in Los Angeles.

While Donald hasn't publicly stated any desire to retire ahead of the 2024 season, Rams general manager Les Snead wasn't completely sure of the defensive tackle's intentions when speaking to reporters on Feb. 28.

"Definitely hope Aaron is [back]," Snead said, via Rodrigue. "I know Aaron is definitely approaching the offseason where he's doing his normal getting-away, somewhat trying to get revitalized with the goal of playing good football."

It seems likely that Donald will return, as the Rams surpassed expectations in 2023 by finishing with a record of 10-7 to make the playoffs in a competitive AFC West race. The eight-time All-Pro was a major reason behind Los Angeles' unexpected postseason appearance, maintaining his status as one of the top defensive players in the NFL.

The veteran showed no signs of slowing down in his 10th season, recording eight sacks and 16 tackles for loss while batting down three passes at the line of scrimmage. He also added 23 quarterback hits, while Pro Football Focus gave him a terrific 90.9 grade for his efforts in 2023.

Donald is set to earn $35 million in 2024, with $5 million fully guaranteed already. The remaining $30 million becomes guaranteed on March 17 (via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk). If he decides to keep playing, the Rams' front office will likely have no issue with paying the three-time Defensive Player of the Year.
