Giants Rumors: Devin Singletary Agrees to 3-Year, $16.5M Contract in NFL Free Agency

After losing star running back Saquon Barkley in free agency, the New York Giants have reportedly found his replacement.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Giants are signing running back Devin Singletary to a three-year, $16.5 million contract worth up to $19.5 million.

Singletary spent the 2023 season with the Houston Texans and recorded career highs of 216 carries and 898 rushing yards while posting four touchdowns. He also added 30 catches for 198 yards.

A third-round pick in the 2019 draft, Singletary spent the first four seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills. The move reunites him with Giants head coach Brian Daboll, who previously served as offensive coordinator of the Bills.

The Giants opted not to place their franchise tag on Barkley and watched him walk to a division rival, as he reached a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday.

During his six-year run in New York, the 2018 No. 2 pick established himself as one of the most dynamic ball-carriers in the league, but injuries slowed him at various points in his career. Still, losing Barkley is a major blow.

The Giants are certainly hoping that Singletary can reach a level of productivity similar to Barkley. Singletary has missed just one game over the past four seasons, so his durability should allow him to thrive in the Daboll-run offense.

New York still has some work to do if it hopes to bounce back from last season's disappointing 6-11 finish.
