49ers Rumors: Leonard Floyd Agrees to 2-Year, $20M Contract After 1 Season with Bills
March 11, 2024
The San Francisco 49ers are signing linebacker Leonard Floyd, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Floyd is joining on a two-year, $20 million deal worth up to $24 million. He will get $12 million guaranteed his first year in San Francisco.
The 31-year-old had 32 tackles, 10.5 sacks and a forced fumble in his sole year with the Buffalo Bills last season.
Floyd spent the first four seasons of his career with the Chicago Bears, before joining the Los Angeles Rams in 2020. After three seasons there, he signed a one-year deal with the Bills.
He now joins his former position coach with the Bears, Brandon Staley, who took over as the 49ers assistant head coach after he was fired as the Los Angeles Chargers' head coach in December.
Floyd adds to what was already a great defense in 2023. The 49ers allowed 303.9 yards per game last year, which was the eighth-best mark in the league. Their defense fell short in stopping the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl last season, though, and it became clear there was still work to be done.
Bringing in Floyd gives San Francisco a major boost on the edge, and the 49ers will look to return to the Super Bowl next season behind a bolstered defensive unit.
