As many NFL teams look toward free agency for the next signal-caller, an intriguing option still exists on the trade market.

Jeff Howe of The Athletic reported that Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields "remains a trade candidate" despite the hot market for quarterbacks this offseason.

Howe reported that teams have shown interest in Fields and that "the market is evolving with other veteran free agents finding homes."

Kirk Cousins, Sam Darnold, Jacoby Brissett, Jameis Winston, Gardner Minshew and Russell Wilson are among the quarterbacks who have found new homes, and several quarterbacks will get selected in the 2024 NFL draft to take over teams.

The Chicago Bears could be one of those teams, as they hold the No. 1 overall pick and will have first dibs on any quarterback prospect in April. USC quarterback Caleb Williams could be that selection, which would render Fields expendable.

Fields has showed promise since being taken in the first round in 2021, but it hasn't translated to significant team success. He has thrown for 6,674 yards with 40 touchdowns and 30 interceptions during his career and has also added 2,220 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.

Fields' dual-threat ability is intriguing, but his 10-28 record as a starter and the opportunity to take a player regarded as highly as Williams makes it a tricky situation for the Bears. He's also nearing the end of his rookie contract, and having Williams or another rookie quarterback on his rookie contract could be valuable for a Bears team that is slowly building toward being competitive.

The Atlanta Falcons signing Kirk Cousins ended the possibility of Fields heading to his home state. While he could be an interesting fit for several teams, a clear-cut starting position could be difficult to come by.
