Chiefs' Updated Depth Chart, Salary Cap Space After Marquise Brown's Contract
March 15, 2024
The Kansas City Chiefs added a valuable piece to the offense on Thursday, picking up wide receiver Marquise Brown.
The Chiefs signed Brown, who spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, to a one-year, $7 million deal, per The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
Wide receiver struggles were a major theme for Kansas City in 2023, though the team still managed to win the Super Bowl, and adding Brown should help relieve some of those woes next year.
Brown, who had 574 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games last season, gives quarterback Patrick Mahomes another solid target as the Chiefs look to win an unprecedented third straight championship in 2024. Here's a look at Kansas City's updated depth chart of skill position players with the addition of Brown:
- QB: Patrick Mahomes, Chris Oladokun, Ian Book
- RB: Isiah Pacheco, La'Mical Perine, Keaontay Ingram, Deneric Prince, Hassan Hall
- WR: Marquise Brown, Rashee Rice, Skyy Moore, Justyn Ross, Jacob Copeland, Justin Watson, Kadarius Toney, Cornell Powell, Anthony Miller, Montrell Washington, Nikko Remigio, Shi Smith
- TE: Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, Irv Smith, Izaiah Gathings, Gerrit Prince
Before the deal for Brown, the Chiefs had $16.26 in estimated cap space, per Spotrac. After signing Brown, Kansas City now has an estimated $9.26 million cap space, which could give the Chiefs room to add a few more pieces.
While the Chiefs managed to win a third Super Bowl in five years last season, there were many doubts about whether the receiving core had what was needed to win it all. Dropped passes and miscues from receivers were common all season, and adding Brown could help clean up some of those issues.
Brown, a first-round pick in 2019, spent his first three years with the Baltimore Ravens, notching his only 1,000+ receiving yard season in 2021. While he showed promise early in his career, Brown has been slowed down by injuries, failing to play a full season the last three years.
Now joining the Super Bowl champions, Brown is looking to stay healthy and help bolster the Chiefs' offense.
