Conor McGregor Reveals There's Been 'No Talk' with UFC About Potential Return Dates
March 19, 2024
Fans eagerly anticipating Conor McGregor's return to UFC will have to keep waiting.
In an interview with talkSPORT (via MMA Fighting's Damon Martin), McGregor said he "would love" to fight on June 29, the date he earmarked for a matchup with Michael Chandler. However, he's still unsure of when he'll be back inside the Octagon.
"If they give me that, then we can go ahead and straight away for sure," the former featherweight and lightweight champion said. "I did call for that also [at The Sphere in September], that would be great for me. June 29, and then The Sphere, and then what? What happens then, I don't know."
McGregor added that "there's been no talk about anything."
The 35-year-old last fought in July 2021, yet plenty of enthusiasm surrounds a possible comeback despite his lengthy layoff along with the fact his best is probably behind him. Three of his last four bouts ended in defeat, though one of those was the result of a broken leg in the first round.
It looked like the pieces were falling into place when McGregor said he intended to go up against Chandler in Las Vegas this summer. Chandler then called him out on an episode of WWE Raw, the first big crossover moment since the merger between WWE and the UFC.
McGregor subsequently entertained the idea of opposing Nate Diaz this September at UFC 306, an idea UFC president Dana White publicly dismissed.
For all intents and purposes, McGregor and the UFC appear to be locked in a stalemate.
