NBA Rumors: Wolves' Karl-Anthony Towns Could Return from Knee Injury Before Playoffs

The Minnesota Timberwolves could be getting one of their star players back from injury ahead of the 2024 playoffs.
There is "optimism" that Karl-Anthony Towns could return from his torn meniscus before the end of the regular season, The Athletic and Stadium's Shams Charania said Tuesday during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

Timberwolves governor Glen Taylor also recently told Darren Wolfson of KSTP that Towns is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery (28:15 minute mark). However, there is still "no firm timetable" for his return.
Towns has been sidelined since undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee on March 12. The Timberwolves announced at the time he would be reevaluated in four weeks.
When Towns' surgery was initially reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the expectation was that he wouldn't return until early in the Western Conference playoffs.
Losing the 28-year-old has been a tough blow for the Timberwolves, though they are 8-4 in his absence and sit third in the Western Conference with a 51-23 record, one game back of the first-place Oklahoma City Thunder.
Towns has taken more of a backseat to Anthony Edwards this season in terms of scoring, though he's still averaging 22.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 60 games while shooting 50.6 percent from the floor and 42.3 percent from deep.
The Timberwolves have eight more regular-season games remaining and are in a tight battle with the Thunder and Denver Nuggets for the No. 1 seed. If Towns could return for at least one of those matchups, it would be a benefit for the franchise heading into the postseason.
