A-Town Down Under, Awesome Truth Win Tag Titles in WWE WrestleMania 40 Ladder Match
April 7, 2024
Both A-Down Town Under and The Awesome Truth emerged victorious after a six-way tag team ladder match on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40 on Saturday.
Austin Theory and Grayson Waller grabbed the SmackDown belts after pushing both DIY and The Awesome Truth off the ladders.
With all four of their foes knocked out, A-Down Town Under took down the SmackDown belts to claim the titles for the blue brand.

As for the Raw belts, R-Truth enjoyed his WrestleMania moment, retrieving the titles after pushing Damian Priest off the ladder.

And with that, The Judgment Day left empty-handed after entering the match as undisputed WWE tag team champions. The New Day and New Catch Republic also competed in the match.
The Judgment Day beat Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the undisputed titles at Payback in September 2023, and although they dropped them to Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso a month later, Priest and Bálor won the titles back just nine days after losing them.
Priest and Bálor defeated plenty of challengers in the months that followed, and they entered WrestleMania 40 having been champions for over 170 consecutive days.
With no one team able to beat them, Raw general manager Adam Pearce and SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis came up with a plan to give The Judgment Day the biggest challenge of their reign.
They announced that Priest and Bálor would have to defend the titles in a six-way ladder match, and a series of qualifying matches were held to determine who would be in the contest.
On the Raw side, The New Day defeated Alpha Academy, DIY beat The Creed Brothers, and Awesome Truth took down Indus Sher to qualify for WrestleMania.
With regard to SmackDown, New Catch Republic beat Pretty Deadly and then Angel and Berto to qualify, while A-Town Down Under defeated Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, followed by The Street Profits.
With so much talent involved in the match, the odds were stacked against The Judgment Day, but there was also an expectation among fans that the contest would deliver in a highly entertaining way.
All six teams dazzled the WWE Universe, and they were also treated to a title change with A-Town Down Under and The Awesome Truth coming out on top.
Theory and Waller have established themselves as two of WWE's most effective heels, and now that they have the tag titles in their possession, they'll have even more to brag about.
The Miz and R-Truth are veterans and it is unclear how many more WrestleMania moments they will have, but they shared a great one Saturday and became tag team champions together for the first time.
