Texans' Updated NFL Super Bowl 59 Betting Odds After Stefon Diggs Trade with Bills
April 3, 2024
The Houston Texans are starting to look like Super Bowl contenders.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday the Texans acquired wide receiver Stefon Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick from the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo received a 2025 second-round pick that comes via the Minnesota Vikings.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, as of Wednesday morning, the Texans now have +1700 odds (bet $100 to win $1,700) to win the Super Bowl next season. Those changed from +2500 before the trade.
It's not surprising to see Houston's odds changing when it comes to the team's pursuit of a Lombardi Trophy.
It was already a playoff contender coming off an AFC South crown with one of the league's best young quarterbacks in C.J. Stroud. Nico Collins had a breakout year in 2023, and Tank Dell is expected to return from his broken fibula.
Throw in the acquisition of veteran running back Joe Mixon and the possibility Stroud could take strides from his first to second seasons even after an incredible Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign, and Houston fans could be forgiven for entering the new season with plenty of optimism.
And that was before the team added a four-time Pro Bowler with six straight years of more than 1,000 receiving yards in Diggs.

While Diggs may not be the same player who led the league in catches (127) and receiving yards (1,535) in 2020, he was still productive in 2023 with 107 catches for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns.
He also might not face as many double teams playing alongside Collins and Dell, which could create even better opportunities to get open downfield.
The Texans won the division and a playoff game last season with a rookie quarterback and seemed well ahead of schedule in what figured to be a rebuild after they went a combined 11-38-1 the previous three years.
Stroud establishing himself as a star so quickly changed the immediate outlook for the franchise and allowed it to be more aggressive to capitalize on a competitive window while he is still under a rookie contract.
That aggressiveness led to Diggs and better Super Bowl odds with more time remaining in the offseason to make improvements.
