Justin Thomas announced that he and caddie Jim "Bones" Mackay have parted ways after two-and-a-half years together.

Mackay and Thomas joined forces in the fall of 2021. Less than one year later, Thomas won his second PGA Championship, this time at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

However, Thomas has not fared as well of late, falling to 28th in the Official World Golf Rankings. This season, he's missed the cut at the Genesis Invitational and The Players Championship, and he's also coming off a T-64 at the Valspar Championship.

The Mackay news comes just eight days before Thomas tees it up as the Masters.

Mackay is best known for being Phil Mickelson's caddie from 1992-2017. Mickelson won five major championships with Mackay on the bag, including the legendary 2003 Masters title.

After his stint with Mickelson, Mackay joined the Golf Channel as a commentator. He briefly returned to caddying while working as a substitute for Thomas' ex-caddie, Jimmy Johnson, who was sidelined for some tournaments due to health reasons.

Thomas and Johnson ultimately parted ways in 2021.

Thomas and Mackay ultimately had mixed results together.

The best moment was the PGA Championship, where Thomas won despite being seven shots off the lead going into the final round.

However, Thomas missed the cut at three of the next six majors, and his best finish was a T-37. Thomas also had a stretch of seven tournaments in 2023 where he missed a cut five times. He then had a stretch of five straight appearances from 2023 to 2024 where he finished sixth or better, but perhaps the latest regression led to a change.

Thomas now heads to Augusta in a slump and in need of a new caddie. The good news is that he's mostly fared well at the Masters, making the cut seven of eight times and earning top-20 finishes on four occasions.
