Stefon Diggs to Wear No. 1 for Texans After Trade; Wore No. 14 for Bills, Vikings
April 4, 2024
When Stefon Diggs suits up for the Houston Texans this season, he'll be wearing a new number for the first time in his career.
Diggs, who was traded from the Buffalo Bills to Houston on Wednesday, will wear No. 1 for the Texans after wearing No. 14 for both the Minnesota Vikings and Bills through the first nine years of his career.
According to KPRC 2 Houston's Aaron Wilson, Diggs paid Texans safety Jimmie Ward roughly $100,000 for the number.
Now, the Texans' offensive trio of Diggs, quarterback CJ Stroud and wide receiver Tank Dell will wear the numbers seven, one and three, which happens to be the Houston area code. It seems "713" could be the new nickname for what is sure to be a successful group.
Diggs is coming off his sixth consecutive season of at least 1,000 receiving yards, picking up 1,183 for the Bills last year. He now joins Dell, who had an outstanding rookie year in 2023, giving the Texans an electric receiving corps. Dell had 709 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games last year.
Stroud had a huge rookie season as well, picking up 4,108 passing yards and 23 touchdowns to be named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Now that Stroud has one of the best receivers in the league, the sky is the limit for him and Houston's offense.
The Texans had a solid 10-7 season last year, notching a dominant win in the wild-card round over the Cleveland Browns before losing to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round.
An already talented team got even better with the addition of Diggs, and now the Texans will be a team to watch for in the AFC.
