Malik Nabers Talks Giants as Possible Landing Spot in 2024 NFL Draft amid Rumors
April 7, 2024
Amid rumors that he could land with the New York Giants in the NFL draft, LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers spoke on the prospect of playing with the team as they figure out the quarterback situation.
He answered honestly, saying that if he lands with the Giants, they will want to get a solid quarterback immediately to help the talented wideout make plays.
"That's a decision that's going to have to be placed when I hear my name called," Nabers said on CBS Sports HQ. "I don't know where I'm going. Going to New York, it wouldn't be a bad idea. The quarterback situation, I know they're going to figure it out, especially if they have a caliber receiver coming like me. They're going to want to get me the ball, so I'm sure they're going to want to have a quarterback that can do that."
New York currently has the sixth overall pick, but there have been rumors the Giants will try to trade up and draft a quarterback amid uncertainty surrounding Daniel Jones.
An injury-filled season saw Jones notch just 909 passing yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions in six games last season. Jones had his best season in 2022 when he threw for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions.
If Jones can return to his 2022 self, drafting a wide receiver would be the right call, but it's not a given he will be in that form in 2024.
Should the Giants draft a wide receiver, Nabers seems like an obvious choice. Bleacher Report's Scouting Department lists him as the No. 7 overall prospect and the No. 2 wide receiver behind Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the latest Mock Draft, Nabers is projected to land with the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 8 pick.
Last year with LSU, Nabers had 1,569 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. He had the second-most receiving yards only behind Washington's Rome Odunze, who is also a projected top-10 pick.
It's unclear which direction New York will go in the draft, but Nabers would be a solid receiver option if it decides not to take a quarterback.
