Scottie Scheffler is the world's most in-form golfer and the sizable favorite to win The Masters.

Scheffler won two of his last three starts and finished in the top five in five of his eight PGA Tour starts in 2024.

The 2022 Masters champion is a clear favorite over a loaded field that includes reigning Masters winner Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy and others.

The season's first major marks the first opportunity for Rahm, Koepka and other LIV Golf participants to go up against all the best golfers in the world.

A year ago, Koepka proved the LIV Tour was not a detriment to his major contention, so we should expect him and Rahm to once again be near the top of the leaderboard, along with Scheffler.

Scheffler will be a popular betting pick, even as the rare +400 betting favorite for a major golf tournament.

He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship and took second at the Houston Open in his last three starts.

The 2022 Masters winner has not shot worse than 70 in a single round since his first PGA Tour appearance of the season. He has never finished outside the top 20 in four Masters appearances.

All of the numbers make a good case for why the favorite should win, but Rahm, McIlroy and Koepka should challenge at some point of the week as well.

Rahm conquered Augusta National Golf Club last season. He beat Koepka and Phil Mickelson by four strokes. All three of those players now play on the LIV Tour.

Koepka's success at Augusta last year proved the LIV Tour does not affect the game's best golfers when they show up at majors.

Rahm landed in the top 10 in five of his seven Masters appearances, while Koepka owns three top-10 finishes in his last five starts at Augusta.

McIlroy has the most questions surrounding him of the four golfers with the lowest betting odds.

The four-time major winner missed the cut in 2021 and 2023, and he has more finishes outside the top 20 at Augusta in his last five Masters than he does top-10 placings.

McIlroy can certainly contend, as he did at the other three majors in 2023, but there is more variance to his finishing position compared to Scheffler, Rahm and Koepka's impeccable standards.

The big names in golf typically reside at the top of the Masters leaderboard.

Scheffler, Rahm, Hideki Matsuyama, Dustin Johnson and Tiger Woods were the last five champions at Augusta.

A year ago, Scheffler, Koepka, Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele all finished in the top 10 beneath the victorious Rahm.

In 2022, Scheffler, McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Cameron Smith and Morikawa made up the top five.

A long-shot winner, like Danny Willett in 2016, rarely comes about at Augusta, so a star-studded Sunday should be on tap.

Course history has mattered at Augusta. Four former green jacket winners landed in the top 10 last year. A similar number should be posted in 2024 given the form of some of the recent winners.

Koepka and McIlroy are the most notable names in the 2024 field without a green jacket. Koepka had a brutal weekend last year that cost him the win. McIlroy is just searching for any major win since his drought is now up to 10 years.

Morikawa, Schauffele and Smith, who all have multiple top-10 Masters finishes in the last three years, are other golfers to watch as potential Masters winners.
