The race to be the No. 2 quarterback taken behind Caleb Williams in the 2024 NFL draft is on, and Jayden Daniels' improvement could mean the LSU signal-caller is the choice.

"Jayden has drastically improved his style of play and efficiency as a thrower and QB," one private quarterback coach said, per Ted Nguyen of The Athletic. "He possesses elite traits as a thrower and athlete but has inefficiencies still visible in the game and on the field. For Jayden, I see his ascension as an NFL player heavily linked to offseason development, and the staff supports his training and gives grace to improve consistency."

Daniels' improvement on the field was clear at the collegiate level, as he struggled with consistency during his time at Arizona State before he became the best player in the sport at LSU.

He won the 2023 Heisman Trophy, completing 72.2 percent of his passes for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and four interceptions while adding 1,134 yards and 10 scores on the ground. The explosive rushing ability is there, so the passing improvement for someone who threw 10 touchdowns to 10 interceptions in 2021 will surely stand out to NFL scouts.

B/R's NFL Scouting Department ranked Daniels as the third-best quarterback in the draft behind Williams and Drake Maye but said the LSU product had the best mobility of the bunch.

However, it also projected Daniels as the No. 2 overall pick in its most recent mock draft, suggesting he has an excellent chance to become the next franchise quarterback for the Washington Commanders.

If he does, continuing to improve as a passer will ultimately determine if he lives up to the hype.
