The best golfers in the world will start the 2024 Masters on a bit of a delay.

Inclement weather at Augusta National Golf Club pushed the start of the first round back and golf probably will not be played until the afternoon.

The conditions could make the course even more difficult to deal with for Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Co.

The delay also means the players scheduled in the afternoon wave of tee times will have to come back on Friday morning to finish their respective rounds.

The Masters first round is no stranger to low first-round scores in recent history, no matter what the weather is.

    Three seven-under 65s occurred in 2021 and 2023, while the first-round leader in 2022 shot a 67.

Joaquin Niemann First Round Leader (+3000)

Joaquin Niemann's name has been tossed around by a handful of golf fans as a potential surprise winner at Augusta.

The Chilean has been out of the spotlight on the LIV Golf Tour, where he achieved two victories and two other top 10 finishes.

The 25-year-old does not have a top-10 finish at any major, but he did land in a tie for 16th at Augusta last season. That was his best placing at the season's first major.

Niemann should complete his round on Thursday. He was scheduled to play in the morning wave with Nick Taylor and Russell Henley.

He will not take up much of the spotlight at the start, but he has the potential to sit on top of the leaderboard by the end of the first round given his form on the LIV Tour.

Scottie Scheffler End of Round 1 Top 10 (+140)

Scottie Scheffler has not carded a round over 71 on the PGA Tour this season.

The expectation for Scheffler is that he contends from start to finish at Augusta and begins his tournament with a strong round.

Scheffler posted a four-under 68 to land inside the top 10 and ties at last year's Masters.

A similar score should be expected, despite the conditions, from the most in-form golfer in the world.

Scheffler should not make too many mistakes, and even if he shoots a three-under 69, he could be in the mix for the top 10 after the first round because of how others deal with the rain-soaked course.

Scheffler is expected to be around the lead for most of the weekend and that should begin with his Thursday performance.

Brooks Koepka End of Round 1 Top 10 (+280)

Nothing seems to faze Brooks Koepka at the start of major championship golf tournaments.

Koepka blazed out to a tie for the lead in 2023 with a seven-under 65 that was matched by Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland.

That first-round performance was the first sign that we knew that Koepka's major-winning form was back on the course. He dealt with injuries for two years that kept him out of contention.

Koepka went on to tie for second after a rough Sunday last year. He won the PGA Championship a month later.

Koepka finished inside the top 10 at the last three Masters in which he was healthy. He was tied for the first-round lead in 2019 with Bryson DeChambeau and he shot no worse than 70 in each round in 2020.

An in-form Koepka should be near the top of the leaderboard right away to get us excited for what should be a star-studded finish on Sunday with Koepka, Scheffler, Jon Rahm and other stars involved in the fight for the green jacket.
