April 17, 2024
Hanna Cavinder will join her twin sister Haley in returning to college basketball next season.
Hanna announced on social media on Wednesday that she will be coming back to play for Miami during the 2024-25 campaign. Haley had previously entered the transfer portal and will play at TCU.
Hanna Cavinder @CavinderHannaMy last season of basketball was one of the most successful & challenging yrs of my life but it helped me grow immensely. The past few months I have been itching to get back to the game that I thought I lost the passion for. With that being said, I am returning for one more szn🧡 pic.twitter.com/21oCjdLRM0
The Cavinder Twins had announced last year that they'd be stepping away from Miami and college basketball. They had helped the Hurricanes reach the Elite Eight in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
"Hanna and I have decided to not take our fifth year and start a new chapter in our lives," Haley wrote on social media at the time. "The U will always be home and we are forever proud to be Hurricanes."
The duo became two of the biggest NIL stars in all of college sports. Per Pete Nakos of On3.com, they announced their first NIL deal in Boost Mobile in Times Square on the first day that such deals were allowed to college athletes on July 21, 2021. Since then, they've signed with major brands like Raising Cane's, Victoria's Secret PINK and Champs Sports.
In February 2023, the NCAA announced a recruiting violation against Miami regarding the Cavinder Twins, who were alleged to have had dinner with booster John Ruiz during their recruitment process. The Cavinders weren't sanctioned as part of the penalties levied by the NCAA.
In 123 career games at Miami, Hanna Cavinder averaged 12.4 points. She will be re-joining a Hurricanes team that went 19-12 this past season and fell short of the NCAA Tournament.
