April 28, 2024
The post positions for the Kentucky Derby have been drawn.
Pre-race favorite Fierceness has the No. 17 post in this year's Run for the Roses. The Florida Derby winner is listed at 5-2, per the official Kentucky Derby website.
Sierra Leone (3-1) and Catching Freedom (8-1) are the only two other horses with shorter than 10-1 odds. Sierra Leone drew the No. 2 post, with Catching Freedom at No. 4.
Here's a look at the entire 20-horse list for the 150th running of the Triple Crown's first leg, which will go down on Saturday with a post time of 6:57 p.m. ET.

Fierceness is the favorite for good reason after winning the Florida Derby by 13-and-a-half lengths. It also helps to have a trainer like Todd Pletcher, a seven-time winner of the Eclipse Award as Top Trainer.
Fierceness has made five starts over his racing career, winning twice as a two-year-old as well. His biggest win before the Florida Derby was a victory at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile last fall by six-and-a-quarter lengths.
Keep an eye out for Sierra Leone, though. Trained by two-time Preakness winner Chad C. Brown, Sierra Leone is 2-for-2 this year, winning at the Risen Star Stakes and Toyota Blue Grass Stakes.
Sierra Leone notably defeated second-place Just a Touch, listed at 10-1 odds in the Kentucky Derby, in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes. He also beat 20-1 Track Phantom and 8-1 Catching Freedom at the Risen Star Stakes.
Catching Freedom bounced back from the third-place finish to win the Louisiana Derby one month later, notably defeating 20-1 Kentucky Derby entrant Honor Marie and Track Phantom. So he'll be rolling into Churchill Downs on a high note.
