Prediction

Sierra Leone enters the race as the favorite, thanks to wins in the Risen Star Stakes and Blue Grass Stakes, which catapulted him to the top of the prep race standings.

So dominant has the colt been that there is only one other horse in the field to claim a victory over him ahead of the Kentucky Derby: Dornoch.

At 20-1, he is on par with several others in this year's race, but do not sleep on him.

In his last six races, Dornoch finished outside of the top three just once, with two runner-up results and three victories, including the 2023 Remsen win over the Derby favorite.

There will be some who point out that the one non-top-three finish was his most recent race, the Blue Grass Stakes on April 6, but that disappointing showing was preceded by three straight victories.

Is he a longer shot than Sierra Leone, Fierceness or Catching Freedom? Yes, but we saw Mage come from out of nowhere to win last year's Derby.

Dornoch will not be quite that level of surprise, but he would be a great underdog story for racing fans to invest in.
