The Kentucky Derby is celebrating a milestone this year, as Saturday's race will mark the 150th running of the illustrious event at Churchill Downs. And it has the potential to be an exciting one.

The 20-horse field is filled with plenty of colts who have a legitimate chance to cross the finish line first. The group is led by betting favorite Fierceness (5-2), but plenty of others could end up winning this year's Derby.

Here's the lineup for the 2024 Kentucky Derby, followed by a breakdown of the favorites to win as well as several sleepers to keep an eye on.

    Fierceness (5-2)

The Todd Pletcher-trained horse is the favorite to win, and for good reason. Fierceness is coming off an impressive victory at the Florida Derby in March, which marked his third win in five career races.

Pletcher is aiming to win the Kentucky Derby for the third time. His first two wins came in 2010 (Super Saver) and 2017 (Always Dreaming), so it'd be fitting if he again won seven years after his previous victory.

    Sierra Leone (3-1)

Through four career races, Sierra Leone has never finished worse than second. He also already owns three wins, including a victory at the Blue Grass Stakes last month.

The Chad Brown-trained colt may have the best chance of beating Fierceness on Saturday, although others will surely be in the mix. Sierra Leone will look to get jockey Tyler Gaffalione his first Kentucky Derby win, as he hasn't finished in the top three in any of his previous six appearances in the race.

    Catching Freedom (8-1)

Like the two aforementioned horses, Catching Freedom has had plenty of success so far. He's won three of his first five races, which includes a victory at the Louisiana Derby in March. He's never finished worse than fourth.

Trainer Brad Cox is seeking his second Kentucky Derby victory after winning with Mandaloun in 2021. Jockey Flavien Prat is also looking to win a second time after previously earning a Derby victory on Country House in 2019.

    Honor Marie (20-1)

Honor Marie owns a pair of wins and a pair of second-place finishes over five career races. The colt hasn't won either of its races in 2024, but he finished as the runner-up to Catching Freedom at the Louisiana Derby.

This will become the first horse trained by D. Whitworth Beckman (a Louisville native) to compete in the Kentucky Derby.

    Mystik Dan (20-1)

An experienced horse with six races under his belt, Mystik Dan has notched a pair of wins. His most recent victory came at the Southwest Stakes in February. The colt then finished third at the Arkansas Derby in March.

Mystik Dan is trained by longtime trainer Kenneth McPeek, who has never won the Kentucky Derby. He's notched victories at the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes, so he needs a Derby win to complete his personal Triple Crown.

    Resilience (20-1)

Resilience is another experienced horse in the Derby field, having won two of his six career races. The Bill Mott-trained colt's pair of victories came within his past three races, including a win at the Wood Memorial Stakes in his most recent event last month.

Mott is a former Kentucky Derby champion, having made it to the winner's circle with Country House in 2019.
