Last year, there was a grand prize that came along with landing the No. 1 overall pick at the NBA draft lottery: the opportunity to take Victor Wembanyama, a franchise-changing talent. The Spurs were fortunate enough to land the top selection, and they used the opening pick of the 2023 draft on Wembanyama, who went on to be named NBA Rookie of the Year.

There's no player like Wembanyama in the 2024 draft class. In fact, the general consensus among analysts is that this class is an overall weak one. Still, there are some high-potential players who could develop into strong NBA talents.

The order for the first 14 picks of the 2024 NBA draft will be set Sunday, when the lottery will take place in Chicago (3 p.m. ET on ABC). The Detroit Pistons (14%) and Washington Wizards (14%) have the best odds of landing the No. 1 pick in this year's draft, which will occur June 26 and 27 in New York.

Here's a look at the full lottery odds, followed by a breakdown of several teams with a good bit at stake.

The Pistons went an NBA-worst 14-68 this season, marking the 13th time in 15 years they've missed the playoffs. They haven't won any postseason series during that span, having not advanced past the first round (or even won a playoff game) since 2008.

Detroit has picked in the top five each of the past three years, a run that began in 2021, when it selected Cade Cunningham with the No. 1 overall selection. So the team is collecting some talented players, even though it hasn't been able to take a step forward.

Perhaps that changes in the near future, especially if the Pistons end up at No. 1 in this year's draft. They could acquire another core player to build around as they look to soon win more than 23 games in a season for the first time since going 41-41 in the 2018-19 campaign.

A player such as French center Alex Sarr could fit well alongside guards Cunningham and Jaden Ivey (the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 draft).

San Antonio Spurs

Despite adding Wembanyama, the Spurs had no improvement in their record this season, going 22-60 for the second consecutive campaign. Of course, they should improve once they add more complementary pieces around the 20-year-old franchise center.

San Antonio has the fifth-best odds of landing the No. 1 pick. But even if it's unsuccessful in doing so, it should be on the clock fairly early in this year's draft.

It's going to be important for the Spurs to add the right players to maximize Wembanyama's talent. So the earlier they pick in the draft, the better opportunity they'll have to find a young player who can be the right fit.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors could have one of the first six picks in the 2024 draft. Or they may not have a pick at all, as their selection could be conveyed to the Spurs, who may be looking at having two early selections themselves.

Toronto had the sixth-worst record in the NBA, giving it the sixth-best odds of landing the No. 1 pick. It has a 45.8% chance of keeping its pick (top-six protected) and a 54.2% chance of having to send it to San Antonio.

It will be interesting to see what happens if the Raptors end up in the top six and can use their pick on one of the top prospects in this year's class. They already have a solid core (RJ Barrett, Scottie Barnes, Jakob Poeltl and others) and could quickly show some improvement next season.
