After beginning his college career at Texas Tech, Shannon grew into a two-way player during two seasons under Brad Underwood at Illinois.

He established himself as one of the most prolific scorers in Division I basketball during his 2023-24 season with the Fighting Illini.

Shannon ranked third among DI men's players by averaging 23.0 points per game, while adding 2.4 threes per contest.

He finished his fifth college campaign having shot 47.5 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from deep.

He additionally scored on 65 percent of his chances below the rim as one of the most efficient finishers in the 2024 draft class, per Wasserman.

Shannon also averaged a steal per game for the second straight campaign, while putting up a career-high 0.9 blocks per contest as he honed his defensive game.

The 23-year-old played a key role in Indiana's NCAA Tournament run as he averaged 28.3 points and 2.3 steals through three games while leading his team to the Elite Eight. The Fighting Illini were then eliminated when he was held to just eight points against UConn.

Wasserman projected Shannon as a first-round pick but noted his draft status would depend on the results of his upcoming trial for felony rape and felony aggravated sexual assault charges, for which he was found not guilty on June 13, per ESPN's Myron Medcalf.

Although Shannon's 6'8.75" wingspan ranked among the bottom half of prospects measured at the 2024 NBA Scouting Combine, he proved during his final season with Indiana that his speed has the potential to make him an effective two-way player for Minnesota.
