Scottie Scheffler struggled on Saturday at the 2024 PGA Championship, failing to stay under par in the third round by shooting a two-over 73.

Scheffler shot over par for the first time since Aug. 2023 and ended his streak of 41 consecutive rounds of par or better.

The world's top-ranked golfer was arrested on his way to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday before he shot a five-under 66.

Scheffler ran into some trouble early, as he recorded his first double-bogey of the event during the second hole on Saturday. He followed it up with bogeys on each of the following two holes, falling into a tie for the No. 32 spot after the rough stretch.

Saturday marked the first time that Scheffler racked up three consecutive bogeys or worse in a single round since the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Aug. 2022, per Justin Ray.

Scheffler was arrested on Friday morning after he attempted to bypass traffic from an accident that occurred just outside Valhalla Golf Club.

According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, Scheffler was attempting to drive around the crash scene before an officer "attached himself" to the golfer's car as he was trying to get him to stop (h/t ESPN's Mark Schlabach).

Per Darlington, Scheffler stopped his car as he turned into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club before an officer pulled him out of his vehicle after opening his door. Scheffler was placed in handcuffs.

The 27-year-old was released at 8:40 a.m. ET on Friday without bail, and returned in time to begin his round. Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic with an arraignment scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m. ET.

As for his Saturday performance, Scheffler improved on the back nine although it wasn't enough to save the round. He alternated between birdies and bogeys on holes 10 and 11 as well as 13 and 14 before capping off the round with one last birdie on 18.

Scheffler already has a major title under his belt in 2024 after winning the Masters, although he'll have some work to do if he wants to top his second-place finish in the 2023 PGA Championship.
