Eight teams enter the first round of the 2024 SEC baseball tournament with one goal in mind.

All of the programs want to win to stay alive for at least another few days in Hoover, Alabama.

The No. 5 through No. 12 seeds will face off in single-elimination games on Tuesday to narrow the tournament field to eight teams.

The tournament turns into a double-elimination format once Wednesday rolls around, so Tuesday's winners are guaranteed at least two more games.

Preview

The SEC tournament begins with one of the nation's best hitters on display at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

Georgia's Charlie Condon comes into the postseason with 35 home runs, 75 RBI and a .451 batting average.

Condon is considered to be one of the top prospects in the 2024 MLB draft. A strong postseason will only strengthen his case to be the No. 1 overall pick.

Condon and the Bulldogs take on a LSU Tigers team that could use a win to stay alive in the hunt to make the NCAA tournament.

On3's Jonathan Wagner projected LSU as one of the last four teams into the tournament in his most-recent bracket prediction.

The Tigers are the only team playing on Tuesday with their NCAA tournament hopes potentially on the line. They could use a win against UGA to feel safer about their prospects.

LSU comes into Hoover with some momentum off a series sweep of Ole Miss, who is expected to fall in the late game to rival Mississippi State.

Georgia lost its final two games of the regular season to Florida, so there is a chance it is susceptible to an upset.

Florida takes the diamond against Vanderbilt in the first game of the night session.

The Gators won four of their last seven games, but they lost a series to Vanderbilt in the regular season.

Vanderbilt tagged Florida's pitching for 15 runs in the first two games of that series on April 18 and 19.

Florida has one of the other stars in the draft class in Jac Caglianone, who is second to Condon in batting average and home runs in SEC play.

Vanderbilt possesses the better team. but Florida has the best individual player in the matchup.

The second game of the day between Alabama and South Carolina pits two struggling teams against each other.

The Gamecocks enter Hoover on a six-game losing run, while Alabama dropped three of its last five. Alabama has the edge in the matchup because it won the season series at the end of March.

Tuesday's four winners will go to play in Wednesday's quarterfinals. Kentucky faces the Georgia-LSU winner, Arkansas takes on either Alabama or South Carolina, top-seed Tennessee takes on Vanderbilt or Florida and Texas A&M awaits Mississippi State or Ole Miss.

Predictions:

Georgia over LSU

Alabama over South Carolina

Vanderbilt over Florida

Mississippi State over Ole Miss
