49ers Rumors: Brandon Aiyuk Hasn't Requested Trade amid Contract Buzz; Not at OTAs
May 21, 2024
Even though the San Francisco 49ers gave themselves an opening to potentially trade Brandon Aiyuk by selecting Ricky Pearsall in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, the 26-year-old wide receiver isn't looking to go anywhere right now.
On the latest episode of The Insiders (starts at 7:11 mark), NFL Network's Mike Garafolo said Aiyuk "has not made a trade request" to the 49ers as the two sides continue to negotiate a long-term contract extension.

Aiyuk did not report to the team's OTAs on Tuesday as he seeks a new contract, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports. Fellow receiver Jauan Jennings was also absent, having yet to sign his restricted free agent tender.
The 49ers have publicly stated their desire to keep Aiyuk throughout the offseason. General manager John Lynch told reporters leading up to the draft the two sides have had "good talks" thus far.
After selecting Pearsall with the No. 31 overall pick, Lynch said the team gave no consideration to trading Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel during the first round of the draft.
Cam Inman @CamInman49ers John Lynch said of potential trade talks involving Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk today:<br>"We didn't entertain any of that today. We're happy with our wide receiver group. Actually, more than happy. We're thrilled with it. And thrilled to add Ricky to it to make it stronger"
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Sunday on SportsCenter that talks between Aiyuk's camp and the 49ers "have not progressed enough where things are close" right now.
"And so, is he going to show up for their workouts? Hard to tell right now," Fowler said. "The market is pretty set for him. Amon-Ra St. Brown in Detroit did that deal recently, about $28 million a year. So, that's something for Aiyuk and the 49ers to work off of but I'm told they're not quite there yet."
Per The Athletic's David Lombardi and Matt Barrows, Aiyuk isn't expected to be with the team this week as they begin OTAs.
The fact that Aiyuk hasn't requested a trade could be read as a positive sign. Samuel took the step of requesting a trade two years ago when he was embroiled in a contract standoff.
San Francisco's history of extensions under the Lynch-Kyle Shanahan regime suggests a deal will likely happen closer to the start of training camp in July if something is going to get done with Aiyuk.
Samuel, George Kittle and Fred Warner all signed their extensions between late-July and mid-August. Nick Bosa had the longest negotiation among the 49ers' core players when he agreed to a five-year, $170 million extension four days before they opened the 2023 regular season.
Aiyuk will earn $14.1 million in the final year of his rookie contract in 2024. He earned an All-Pro second-team selection last season after setting a career-high with 1,372 receiving yards and 17.9 yards per reception.
