Bold Predictions for WWE King and Queen of the Ring and AEW Double or Nothing Cards
May 22, 2024
The Memorial Day holiday weekend is the unofficial start of summer, but for fans of WWE and All Elite Wrestling, it represents one of the most exciting two-day periods of the calendar.
In WWE, the company will complete its King and Queen of the Ring tournaments on Saturday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Several major championships are also on the line, making the premium live event must-see television.
As for AEW, the company's annual Double or Nothing pay-per-view features the overhauled Elite defending their actions in Anarchy in the Arena, as well as several marquee title matches that could change the brand's trajectory.
Here are the bold predictions for a Memorial Day weekend full of wrestling.
Liv Morgan Beats Becky Lynch
After Liv Morgan put Rhea Ripley on the shelf with a shoulder injury, many fans believed she would be the one to win the vacated Women's World Championship. Instead, Becky Lynch dominated the match and walked away with the gold.
While Morgan's fans were furious, the subsequent storytelling between the challenger, the champion and Dominik Mysterio was excellent, giving her new heel character the credibility needed to eventually take the title from The Man.
In Saudi Arabia, Morgan will win the title and complete her takeover of the women's division.
Not only will she walk out of the PLE as the new champion, but her convincing win over Lynch will also legitimize her run as a top star.
Add in her stealing Mysterio, and this story will get Morgan over and set up Ripley for an epic babyface return.
Mercedes Moné and Will Ospreay Win Gold
One of the most anticipated aspects of the upcoming Double or Nothing PPV is the likely title changes, including two of AEW's most significant recent signings, Mercedes Moné and Will Ospreay.
For Moné, she is squaring off against Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship. The last time the challenger competed in a match was against the titleholder in May 2023, and an injury has kept her out of the ring for over a year.
Winning the title would not only complete her triumphant recovery from serious injury, but it would also cement her spot as a top draw in AEW's improving women's division.
As for Ospreay, he is challenging Roderick Strong for the International Championship. After a series of marquee wins since his arrival, it's time for The Aerial Assassin to bring home the gold, but the end of the match should set up a massive feud with Adam Cole.
Whether ready to return to action or not, Cole is missed on television and should return to set his sights on the Englishman.
With the new champion disposing of Cole's Undisputed Kingdom stablemate, he should then pick off members one-by-one until it ultimately leads to Cole vs. Ospreay.
Malakai Black Steals the TNT Championship
While Edge was a cornerstone of WWE for a long time, the revitalized Adam Copeland is performing at an all-time level right now, giving AEW another veteran presence who puts on quality matches every time he steps in the ring.
This time, he will help make Malakai Black look like the top star he's always been.
For whatever reason, Tony Khan and AEW Creative have dropped the ball with Black, but redemption is still possible with a marquee storyline and match between the two veterans.
It's time for the House of Black leader to steal the TNT Championship.
When Black signed with AEW, it was a major coup for the company, as he is a unique talent who combines in-ring dominance and character development. While he hasn't met expectations since joining, Copeland has recently gotten the most out of the House of Black.
At Double or Nothing, Black's return to the top of the card will continue when he dominates the veteran and steals his championship gold.
Eventually, Copeland should begin to side with Black, giving fans a storyline they can get behind.
