All 30 MLB Teams' Best Prospect at Each Minor League Level

Baseball prospects often all get lumped into the same conversation, despite the fact that a 23-year-old playing at the Triple-A level is significantly closer to reaching the big leagues than a 17-year-old just starting his pro career in rookie ball.

While raw tools and long-term upside are always part of the deal with prospects, those start to take a back seat to on-field production the higher a prospect climbs the organizational ladder.

Ahead, we've highlighted each MLB team's top prospect at each level of the minor leagues—Triple-A, Double-A, High-A, Single-A and rookie ball—with the Dominican Summer League and stateside complex leagues all lumped into the "rookie ball" category.

This should provide a slightly different snapshot of each team's current prospect situation than the usual Top 100 prospect list and farm system rankings.

Triple-A: SS Jordan Lawlar (No. 8 on B/R Top 100)
Double-A: RHP Yilber Diaz
High-A: SS Tommy Troy (No. 89 on B/R Top 100)
Single-A: OF Druw Jones (Next 50 on B/R Top 100)

Prospect Spotlight: Right-hander Yilber Diaz struck out 140 batters in 102.2 innings last season, and he is off to a similarly impressive start this year with a 3.23 ERA and 70 punchouts in 47.1 innings at Double-A. With that, he has leapfrogged his Double-A teammate, Yu-Min Lin, as the team's top pitching prospect.

Prospect Spotlight: The Braves drafted Owen Murphy (7 GS, 1.54 ERA, 60 K, 41.0 IP) and JR Ritchie (4 GS, 5.40 ERA, 25 K, 13.1 IP) with the No. 20 and No. 35 overall picks, respectively, in the 2022 draft. Murphy, 20, has been one of baseball's breakout pitching prospects this season, and he jumped onto the B/R Top 100 list in our last update.

Prospect Spotlight: The Triple-A Norfolk Tides are absolutely loaded with top prospect talent, with Jackson Holliday joined by Coby Mayo (No. 11 on B/R Top 100), Heston Kjerstad (No. 26), Connor Norby (Next 50) and Cade Povich (Next 50) headlining the roster. Povich, 24, has emerged as the team's top pitching prospect with a 2.35 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 53.2 innings over 10 starts.

Prospect Spotlight: Infielder Mikey Romero was one the more surprising picks in the first round of the 2022 draft, going No. 24 overall and signing a below-slot deal. After hitting just .214/.294/.286 in 34 games while missing time with a back injury last year, he is off to a much better start at High-A Greenville and showcasing his 55-grade hit tool.

Prospect Spotlight: While the Cubs' most recent first-round picks, Cade Horton and Matt Shaw, are the top prospects on their respective teams, the Triple-A roster also features outfielder Owen Caissie (No. 41 on B/R Top 100) and the Double-A roster includes infielder James Triantos (No. 68) and outfielder Kevin Alcántara (No. 76). The upper minors are stocked right now for the North Siders.

Prospect Spotlight: The Double-A Birmingham roster features several players who were recently acquired in trades that rank just behind Noah Schultz on the team's prospect list. Pitchers Drew Thorpe and Jairo Iriarte were acquired in the Dylan Cease trade, pitcher Jake Eder in the Jake Burger trade, and catcher Edgar Quero in the Lucas Giolito trade.

Prospect Spotlight: Last year's first-round selection Rhett Lowder started the 2024 season with a 2.49 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 29 strikeouts in 25.1 innings at High-A to earn a quick promotion to Double-A. The 22-year-old has scuffled to an 11.91 ERA in three starts since moving up the ladder, but he remains one of baseball's most promising pitching prospects.

Prospect Spotlight: The Guardians acquired Juan Brito in the deal that sent 2023 rookie standout Nolan Jones to the Rockies prior to last season, and he has the potential to even the scales on that trade. The 22-year-old has a .757 OPS with 10 doubles, eight home runs and 27 RBI in 49 games at Triple-A Columbus to start the year.

Prospect Spotlight: In 32 seasons, the Rockies have used 15 different starting catchers on Opening Day, and with Elias Díaz set to reach free agency this coming offseason, the revolving door could spin once again. Enter Drew Romo, who is hitting .350/.366/.561 with 19 extra-base hits in 38 games at Triple-A and is also widely regarded as one of the better defensive catchers in the minors.

Prospect Spotlight: With Paul Skenes slotted in the MLB rotation for the Pirates, right-hander Jackson Jobe is now the league's top pitching prospect currently playing in the minors. The 21-year-old was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 draft, and he turned a corner in his development with a strong run in the Arizona Fall League last year.

Prospect Spotlight: Right-hander A.J. Blubaugh was used primarily as a reliever in college before going in the seventh round of the 2022 draft, but the Astros immediately stretched him out as a starter in pro ball. He had a 4.41 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 100 innings last year and also looked sharp in the Arizona Fall League, and he is now knocking on the door with a strong start at Triple-A.

Prospect Spotlight: The Royals selected prep pitchers Frank Mozzicato and Ben Kudrna at the top of their 2021 draft haul, and they have been patient with both young arms as they are currently teammates at High-A Quad Cities. Kudrna, 21, has a 2.53 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 46 strikeouts in 42.2 innings to open the year.

Prospect Spotlight: The Angels' system is light on impact talent right now, but Joswa Lugo is a name to watch in its lower levels. The 17-year-old inked a $2.3 million bonus as the team's top 2024 international signing, and he has tremendous offensive upside as he grows into his 6'3", 187-pound frame. He will make his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League later this year.

High-A: C Thayron Liranzo
Single-A: OF Josue De Paula (No. 71 on B/R Top 100)

Prospect Spotlight: Outfielder Josue De Paula has the offensive upside to climb to the top of the Dodgers' organization prospect rankings in the near future, with a 60-hit, 55-power offensive profile and a projectable 6'3", 185-pound frame. The 19-year-old has an .808 OPS with four home runs and 14 RBI over 93 plate appearances in May, so a promotion to High-A could be coming soon.

Triple-A: RHP Max Meyer (Next 50 on B/R Top 100)
Double-A: OF Jakob Marsee
High-A: RHP Karson Milbrandt
Single-A: RHP Noble Meyer (No. 61 on B/R Top 100)

Prospect Spotlight: Outfielder Jakob Marsee was part of the prospect package acquired in the deal that sent Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres. The 22-year-old had a breakout 2023 season and then took home Arizona Fall League MVP honors, but he is hitting just .185/.348/.301 with 11 extra-base hits in 186 plate appearances this year.

Prospect Spotlight: Armed with a fastball that clocked 102.4 mph in last year's Futures Game and a lethal slider, Jacob Misiorowski has arguably the best raw stuff of any pitching prospect. The 22-year-old has a 2.55 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 35.1 innings, but he has also walked 28 batters and his long-term future could end up being as a lights-out closer if he isn't able to take the next step forward with his command.

Prospect Spotlight: The Twins don't have the best recent history of cultivating homegrown starting pitching talent, but 2021 13th-round pick David Festa could prove to be the exception. The 24-year-old has pitched well every step of the way in the minors, and he sports a 2.77 ERA and a 60-to-20 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 39 innings at Triple-A St. Paul.

Prospect Spotlight: The No. 22 prospect in the Mets system at the start of the year, according to Baseball America, Jonah Tong is putting together an eye-opening start to the season. The 20-year-old has a 0.90 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 62 strikeouts in 40 innings between Single-A and High-A while limiting opposing hitters to a .155 batting average.

Prospect Spotlight: Towering slugger Spencer Jones is off to a rocky start in his first full season at the Double-A level, hitting .215/.301/.311 with two home runs, 14 RBI and a 35.3 percent strikeout rate in 153 plate appearances. The 23-year-old has just one multi-hit game in May, and he will need to turn things around soon to hold onto his top prospect status.

Prospect Spotlight: Shortstop Jacob Wilson might already be the best hitter in the entire Oakland organization, despite the fact that he has not yet made his MLB debut. The No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 draft hit .455/.473/.705 with 16 extra-base hits in 93 plate appearances at Double-A to earn a quick promotion to Triple-A, and he is 9-for-24 in his first six games at the top level of the minors.

Prospect Spotlight: The Phillies might have found a pair of future stars last year when they signed Starlyn Caba to a $3 million bonus out of the Dominican Republic in January and then selected Aidan Miller with the No. 27 overall pick in the June draft. The club has a solid track record of developing infield talent, with Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott both homegrown players.

Prospect Spotlight: With Paul Skenes and Jared Jones both moving on to the big leagues, Bubba Chandler is now the top pitching prospect in the Pittsburgh system. The 21-year-old was a two-sport star in high school who turned down an opportunity to play baseball and football at Clemson when he signed with the Pirates, and he is still just scratching the surface of his full potential on the baseball field.

Prospect Spotlight: After landing the top prospect in the 2023 international class in catcher Ethan Salas, the Padres again reeled in the market's biggest fish this January when they inked shortstop Leodalis De Vries to a $4.2 million bonus. The 17-year-old has been placed on a similarly fast track, making his pro debut at the Single-A level where he has 12 hits and six walks in his first 15 games, giving a glimpse of what could be a five-tool future.

Prospect Spotlight: After posting a 3.31 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 149 strikeouts in 100.2 innings across three minor league levels last season, Hayden Birdsong is making a strong case for Top 100 prospect consideration this spring. The 22-year-old has a 2.29 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 47 strikeouts with only 20 hits allowed in 35.1 innings at Double-A.

Prospect Spotlight: The Mariners have two of the best prospects in baseball currently playing at the Single-A level in shortstop Colt Emerson and outfielder Lazaro Montes, who checked in just behind him at No. 52 on B/R's latest Top 100 prospect update. Meanwhile, Tyler Locklear was just promoted to Triple-A earlier this week, and he could provide the MLB lineup with a boost in the near future.

He has continued to miss bats with 96 strikeouts in 70.2 innings of pro ball, and a deceptive arm slot helps his stuff play up.

Prospect Spotlight: With a strong 6'1", 215-pound frame and a 55-hit, 60-power offensive profile, Brailer Guerrero has one of the highest offensive ceilings of any teenage prospect in the game. The 17-year-old is hitting an absurd .404/.523/.577 with 21 hits and 12 walks in 14 games while making his stateside debut. Next stop, Top 100 prospect lists.

Prospect Spotlight: Right-hander Emiliano Teodo won Reliever of the Year honors in the Arizona Fall League, racking up five saves while tossing 11 shutout innings in eight appearances, but the Rangers are continuing to develop him as a starter. The 23-year-old has a 2.09 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 38.2 innings over eight starts at Double-A Frisco.

Prospect Spotlight: The Blue Jays acquired Adam Macko along with setup man Erik Swanson in the deal that sent slugger Teoscar Hernández to Seattle prior to the 2023 season. He finished his 2023 season on a roll and has picked up right where he left off this year while making the jump to Double-A, posting a 3.68 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 56 strikeouts in 44 innings.
