Two of the top three seeds were back in action on the men's and women's sides on Wednesday, which saw many matches postponed by rain.

On the men's side, No. 2 seed Jannik Sinner defeated Richard Gasquet in three sets, while No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz won in four sets against qualifier Jesper De Jong.

In the women's draw, No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek defeated former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka after facing a match point down 5-3, while No. 3 seed Coco Gauff won in straight sets.

Here are some of the most noteworthy reactions from Wednesday.

Carlos Alcaraz spent more time on court than he would have liked in his second-round match, but that is a reflection of talented qualifier Jesper De Jong, whose incredible play kept him in the match for four sets.

The Dutch qualifier led by a service break twice in the fourth set before Alcaraz ultimately prevailed.

Alcaraz, who came into the French Open with a right arm injury, looked quite strong from the forehand, easing any outstanding concerns.

Despite his struggles in the second round, the Spaniard should still be able to get to at least the quarterfinals before being tested by Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The biggest storyline of the day was the match between Iga Swiatek, the current world No. 1, and Naomi Osaka, the former world No. 1.

The match did not disappoint one bit, to say the least.

After three hours, it was Swiatek who came out on top, winning her 16th straight match and continuing her quest for her third straight French Open title.

Osaka, who fell in a one-sided first set tiebreaker, played a flawless, dominant second set to even things up and had a match point on serve in the third set at 5-3, but lost four straight games.

Despite the heartbreaking loss, this match signaled just how far the former world No. 1 has come, considering she was away from the WTA tour on maternity leave in 2023.

Jannik Sinner, Coco Gauff Coast to Victory

Jannik Sinner continued with his incredible form, defeating home-crowd favorite Richard Gasquet in straight sets.

The No. 2 seed has lost just twice in 2024 and currently looks like one of the top options to emerge from the bottom half of the men's draw.

Sinner has quickly become one of the most dominant servers on tour, while his power, consistency, and net play continue to separate him from the rest of the field.

In the women's half, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff came back after losing her first service game of the match, en route to a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

If Gauff is able to continue performing the way she has in her first two matches, a match against Iga Swiatek will likely await in the semifinals.
