Video: Chad Gable Confirms New WWE Contract Before Clash at the Castle After Rumors
June 15, 2024
Ahead of his Intercontinental Championship match against Sami Zayn at Clash at the Castle in Glasgow, Scotland, on Saturday, Chad Gable announced that he has signed a new contract with the company.
During an appearance on Gorilla Position (beginning at the 8-minute mark), Gable revealed the news and noted that the manner in which WWE head of creative Triple H has utilized him is a big reason why he decided to re-sign (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News):
"Yes, I have [re-signed]. What I'll say, regarding Hunter [Triple H] ... When he got started with us and took over, I think you saw my trajectory change almost immediately. Even when I was in a tag team with Otis, I started getting singles matches with some of our top guys. To me, a light bulb went off, 'Things might be different now,' and they have been ever since. He's delivered on everything he's ever told me."
Fightful Select (h/t Mukherjee) previously reported that Gable's WWE contract was set to expire June 7, but he appeared on this week's episode of Raw and was booked for a title match against Zayn at Clash at the Castle, which led to speculation that he had decided to sign a new deal with WWE.
Gable, who represented Team USA at the 2012 Summer Olympics in Greco-Roman wrestling, signed a developmental deal with WWE in 2013.
Over the next several years, he established himself as one of the best tag team wrestlers in the company, holding the NXT Tag Team Championships, Raw Tag Team Championships and SmackDown Tag Team Championships at various points.
Despite his success in the tag team realm, a large contingent of fans felt he was capable of more thanks to his in-ring acumen and personality, and he has recently been given bigger and better opportunities.
After coaching up Zayn and helping him beat Gunther for the IC title at WrestleMania 40, Gable turned heel a couple of weeks later by attacking Zayn in his hometown of Montreal after a match.
Gable has quickly developed into one of WWE's top heels as a result, opposing Zayn and verbally attacking his own Alpha Academy stablemates along the way.
Given Gable's uncertain contractual status, there were question marks regarding whether he would actually have a chance to beat Zayn on Saturday, but with a new deal in tow, Gable could very well become a singles champion for the first time at Clash at the Castle.
The 38-year-old veteran has been teasing a split with Otis, Akira Tozawa and Maxxine Dupri, while simultaneously having backstage conversations with The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile, which could be a sign that big changes are coming.
If Gable beats Zayn at Clash at the Castle, it may prove to be thanks to the formation of a new stable with The Creeds and Nile by his side.
