The New York Yankees will reportedly be without first baseman Anthony Rizzo for the foreseeable future.

Ken Rosenthal, Brendan Kuty and Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reported Monday that Rizzo suffered a fracture to the radial neck of his right arm. While he will not require surgery, he may miss four to six weeks.

Rizzo suffered the setback during Sunday's loss to the Boston Red Sox when he collided with relief pitcher Brennan Berardino, who was covering first base on a play.

"He's in some pain in that lower arm in a number of places," Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters after Sunday's game. "He'll get a lot of tests tomorrow and see what we're dealing with."

This is another development in what has been a rather disappointing season for Rizzo.

New York temporarily benched him amid struggles at the plate, and he is slashing just .223/.289/.341 with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 70 games. The numbers are a far cry from his potential given his overall resume.

The 34-year-old is a three-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glover who helped the Chicago Cubs win the World Series during the 2016 campaign. He won a Silver Slugger that year as well and will forever be a Cubs legend.

New York traded for him during the 2021 campaign, and he launched 32 home runs during his first full season with the team.

However, he dealt with a concussion last year and was limited to 99 games. This is yet another setback for the veteran, who has not played his best baseball in 2024.

Look for the Yankees to potentially move third baseman DJ LeMahieu to first base during his absence. If that is their plan, they could then play Oswaldo Cabrera at third base.
