San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. was placed on the 10-day injured list by the team on Monday.

Padres manager Mike Shildt described the injury as a "slight stress reaction" in his quad, according to Dennis Lin of The Athletic.

Tatis appeared in 80 of San Diego's first 82 games of the season, hitting .279 and recording 14 home runs to go along with 36 RBIs in 345 plate appearances.

The 25-year-old was already dealing with a left triceps bruise after he was hit by a pitch in the third inning of the Padres' 9-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.

Tatis admitted that quad tightness has been a lingering issue for him throughout the season when speaking to reporters after a loss on June 18.

"Just not at my best," he said, per Lin. "I feel like most people can notice I'm not stealing bases, I'm not running the way I know I can run. Just a little bit banged up right now, but we're gonna keep fighting to see how we can find a way to stay on the field."

Although the Padres currently own a National League wild card spot, they've been unable to string together a consistent winning streak and currently own an overall record of 41-41. Injuries have factored into the team's middling season, as Tatis will be far from the only contributor to miss time in 2024.

Infielder Xander Bogaerts has been out since May 20 due to a left shoulder fracture, while catcher Luis Campusano was recently placed on the 10-day injured list due to a thumb injury. Starter Yu Darvish was expected to return to the rotation on Tuesday after suffering a groin strain, although he was eventually scratched due to elbow inflammation (h/t Lin).

As the Padres attempt to keep pace in the NL postseason race, they'll be without Tatis for the foreseeable future.
