The news comes just two weeks after Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million contract extension with the Jags, tying him with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow as the NFL's highest-paid player in terms of average annual value at $55 million per season.

Following a spectacular collegiate career at Clemson, Lawrence was the unquestioned No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, and the Jaguars jumped at the opportunity to take him.

Since then, the results have been mixed for the signal-caller and the team as a whole, although Jacksonville is banking on his continued development.

Over the course of his three-year NFL career, the 24-year-old has a 20-30 record as a starter, and the 2022 season was by far his best. He completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 4,113 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions that year en route to his only Pro Bowl selection to date.

Lawrence also led the Jags to a 9-8 record, an AFC South title and a playoff win that season.

Expectations were sky high for Lawrence and the Jaguars entering 2023, and while they got off to an 8-3 start, they went just 1-5 the rest of the way and ended up missing the playoffs.

Lawrence also experienced a dip in production, completing 65.6 percent of his passing attempts for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 picks.

Despite that, he possesses immense talent and a big-time skill set, which suggests he should continue to progress and eventually reach his potential as an elite quarterback in the NFL.
