In a move that became increasingly expected in recent weeks, the Los Angeles Lakers have selected Bronny James, son of NBA legend LeBron James, with the No. 55 pick in the NBA draft.

By selecting James, the Lakers have now paired a father and son together on the same team for the first time in NBA history.

nah this is actually crazy

welcome to the NBA Bronny James pic.twitter.com/x18gpgLwTL

It's been a long journey for James, who has had high expectations his entire life due to his father being one of the best to ever play in the NBA. He managed those expectations through high school and was a 5-star recruit when he committed to play for USC.

He faced a scary setback a year ago when he suffered cardiac arrest caused by a congenital heart defect in July. He worked his way back and was on the court for the Trojans in December.

James' collegiate numbers didn't jump off the page as he averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game, but he showed flashes that he can be a solid NBA player.

At the NBA combine, he impressed scouts by shooting 19-for-25 in the 3-point shooting drill and showcasing his athleticism, proving he's a legitimate NBA prospect and not just the son of an NBA legend.

Now, he'll look to continue improving while playing for the Lakers organization. James will more than likely spend time playing for Los Angeles' G-League affiliate, but that will be a prime opportunity for the 19-year-old to compete against NBA-level talent and perhaps work his way into the Lakers' rotation.

The Lakers used their first-round pick on Tennessee star Dalton Knecht, who could go on to be one of the steals of the draft at No. 17.

What started as a dream is now a reality for the James family. Every NBA player likely dreams of playing with their son, but LeBron is now the first to ever do it, and it will make for a fun storyline during the 2024-25 season.
