LeBron James Hypes 'Legacy' in IG Photo with Young Bronny After Lakers' NBA Draft
June 28, 2024
The Los Angeles Lakers made history on Thursday by selecting Bronny James with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft.
Lakers superstar LeBron James joins the younger James as the first active father-son duo in NBA history. The four-time MVP commemorated the achievement with a post on Instagram, showing the two spending time together during his first stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
"LEGACY!!!!!! 🤴🏾🤴🏾," LeBron wrote.
After growing up in the NBA atmosphere, the 19-year-old is now a member of the Association as well.
After the Lakers selected Bronny on Thursday, LeBron reportedly delivered a champagne toast to commemorate the occasion and was "very emotional" due to the weight of the moment (via ESPN's Dave McMenamin).
The two have been photographed together on the court several times throughout the 20-time All-Star's career, and now they'll have a chance to potentially share the floor as teammates.
It isn't a certainty just yet, as the elder James still has to make a decision regarding his $51.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season (via Spotrac). ESPN's Bobby Marks noted that he could opt out and sign a three-year contract worth $162 million with Los Angeles.
As for the younger James, he'll attempt to earn a rotation spot as a rookie for a Lakers team that is attempting to bounce back from a disappointing first-round exit in the 2024 playoffs.
He's coming off an up-and-down freshman campaign at USC, averaging just 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 36.6 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from behind the arc.
James improved his status in the 2024 class throughout the pre-draft process, as ESPN's Jonathan Givony reported on May 29 that the guard "helped his draft stock considerably since announcing he'd enter the draft" in April.
If his father chooses to return to the team in the offseason, it's fair to expect more pictures to be taken of the two together. This time, they'll both be wearing purple and gold.
