Paul had a $30 million guarantee for 2024-25 if he remained on the roster past June 30. The original deadline was June 28, but Paul and the Warriors mutually agreed to move the date to Sunday in order to try to find a trade. Obviously that didn't come to fruition and now he will be available to the highest bidder.
He averaged 9.2 points, 6.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 58 games for Golden State in 2024-25. While his presence will surely be missed in the Bay Area, freeing up the cap space will give the team some ammunition during free agency.
The Warriors currently have $147.2 million in devoted salary for 2024-25, per ESPN's Bobby Marks. Golden State has $28 million in first apron space and $39.7 million in second apron space.
In terms of the roster for 2024-25, this is how the Warriors could line up.
Starters:
Steph Curry
Draymond Green
Brandin Podziemski
Andrew Wiggins
Jonathan Kuminga
Reserves:
Gary Payton II
Moses Moody
Lindy Waters
Gui Santos
Trayce Jackson-Davis
Kevon Looney
Quinten Post
Current UFA's:
Klay Thompson
Dario Saric
Chris Paul
Golden State could look to retain Klay Thompson, but will be fighting off quite a charge from several other suitors. The Warriors could also be in the running for a player like Paul George, but his market will be competitive as well.
Golden State went 46-36 in 2023-24 and lost in the play-in tournament. Still, the franchise is just two seasons removed from an NBA Championship and have retained some key pieces from the core that led it to four titles.
Whatever the team decides, it will be a significant offseason.
