Stephen Curry and LeBron James have been the two defining players of their era, meeting in the NBA Finals four time, with Curry winning three of those matchups.

It's been a rivalry, no doubt, but Curry spoke Monday with Yahoo Sports about their ongoing relationship, including James reaching out to a younger Curry when the Golden State Warriors star was just a rookie (4:02 mark):

"The relationship started out great, at the beginning. Not to say that it was bad at any point. It was great [when I was in college], he came to a couple of games, and then he invited me over his house my rookie year before we played Cleveland. When he was in Akron. And obviously in The Finals, that brings out some of the healthy animosity of somebody standing in your way of a goal. You know you're going to have some bad blood out there. But through it all, I'm a firm believer that you can be competitive, you can have that killer instinct and see blood on the other side, but still have the utmost respect for who you are playing against. That's the ultimate compliment for a guy like 'Bron, whose always pushed the bar higher and higher with everything he's done."

James will go down as the greatest player of his generation and will remain in the debate for the greatest player, period, alongside Michael Jordan. And his impact off the court, ushering in the "player empowerment" era, has been equally important to the machinations of the modern NBA.

But Curry arguably had a bigger impact on how the modern game is played, as his elite perimeter shooting helped bring about the modern NBA model of floor spacing and tempo. Curry will be remembered as the greatest shooter ever, and his rivalry with James defined the NBA between in the second half of the 2010s.

Now, the two will pair up on Team USA as the Americans look to claim yet another gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
