The fourth of five women's golf majors is set to kick off later this week. Beginning on Thursday, some of the world's best will compete in the 2024 Amundi Evian Championship.
Amy Yang took home the top prize at last month's Women's PGA Championship, while the Chevron Championship and U.S. Women's Open were won by Nelly Korda and Yuka Saso, respectively. All three are expected to be in this weekend's star-studded field.
The tournament will feature a total prize pool of $8 million, which is substantially less than the $12 million offered at the U.S. Women's Open but up from last year's Evian prize pool of $6.5 million.
In other words, there will be plenty on the line, including a major title, when the action gets underway at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Évian-les-Bains, France.

Tournament Preview

While the Evian Championship didn't become a Ladies European Tour and LPGA co-sanctioned major until 2013, it has quickly become one of golf's marquee tournaments. Like The Masters, the tournament is always played at the same venue.
The tournament saw a little bit of history in 2023, when Céline Boutier became the first French golfer to win the event. The 30-year-old won by six strokes to capture her first career major.
Boutier will look to defend her title this weekend and is coming off a 19th-place tie at the Women's PGA Championship. Boutier will have another shot at history, as no golfer has ever won the Evian Championship twice since it became an official major in 2013.
Yang is looking to follow up her one-stroke victory at the Women's PGA Championship by claiming the second major of her career.
"At one point I thought, 'Will I ever win a major championship before I retire?'" Yang said after last month's win, per Tim Booth of the Associated Press. "And I finally did it and it's just amazing."
Korda, who now has two majors on her resume, is the early favorite and for good reasons. While the 25-year-old has missed the cut in three straight events—and withdrew from a Ladies European Tour event after suffering a dog bite—she remains the world's No. 1-ranked women's golfer.
Since January, Korda has won six tournaments and recorded a seventh top-10 finish.
Atthaya Thitikul, who has four top-10 finishes this year, is also among the early favorites. The 21-year-old is still searching for her first career major but has fared well in Évian-les-Bains in the past. Thitiku recorded a top-10 finish in each of the last three Evian Championships.
Lilia Vu, the second-ranked golfer in the world, should also be a significant factor this weekend. Vu withdrew from the U.S. Women's Open but has since rebounded with a second-place finish (tied) at the Women's PGA Championship and a win at Meijer LPGA Classic.
Vu won four tournaments—including both the Chevron Championship and the AIG Women's Open—in 2023.
With so much championship talent in the field, fans can expect a thrilling four days of golf over the weekend.
